Rarely have I seen science and reverential spirituality so powerfully blended as they are in The Sacred Balance: Rediscovering Our Place in Nature. The author, noted Canadian scientist and environmentalist David Suzuki, has a profound grasp of the delicate and fragile biological systems within which we live--and a compelling way of laying out the story and its implications. It's a very accessible read, rich with memorable and often mind-boggling realities. If you're at all like me, you'll find yourself marking pages and repeatedly reading passages to your friends.
It may be fair to say that The Sacred Balance played a large part in my awakening to the need for sustainable living. Most importantly, I think it creates a framework of respect for the interdependence of life on this planet. And as such, an ideal jumping off point for further explorations--of climate issues, biodiversity, sustainability, and other areas you can turn your attention to. Bottom line, after reading The Sacred Balance, it all makes more sense.
Two places you can easily get this book are...on Amazon and from Douglas & McIntyre publishers (Canada).
